Code Enforcement
The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcing the City’s rules regarding property maintenance and other regulations, including abandoned vehicles, snow removal, grass cutting violations, and many more. In addition, he is also responsible for performing site inspections for building permits. The City of Harrington has adopted the 2012 International Building, Residential, and Property Maintenance Codes as the building and maintenance standards for the City. Additional regulations are found throughout the Code of the City of Harrington.
Common Code Violations
- Accessory structures in disrepair (2012 IPMC Section 302-7)
- Grass or weeds over 6″ tall (305-4)
- Accumulation of trash (305-7)
- Trash cans left out (305-8 C)
- Interior furniture placed outside (305-16)
- Cars with expired or no tags (on a public street 406-1, on private property 406-2)
- Parking cars in yards (440-216 B(2))
