Planning & Inspections

The Planning & Inspections Department is responsible for maintaining Harrington’s character and safety now and into the future. This is done through overall city planning and on an individual property level through building permits and code enforcement.

The Department of Planning and Inspections provides staff support to the Mayor and City Council, the Planning Commission, and the Board of Adjustment. The office implements the goals and objectives of the 2013 Comprehensive Plan through the administration of the Zoning Chapter, Subdivision Chapter, and the Floodplain Regulations Chapter. The office also reviews all residential and commercial building permits for compliance with the Code of the City of Harrington and the 2012 International Building Code. Lastly, the office is responsible for the inspection of all rental properties within the City, and the enforcement of all applicable zoning, building, and property maintenance codes. The office consists of a city planner and a code enforcement officer, and the City employs a contractual building inspector.
