School is Back in Session – Keep Kids Safe
Our Lake Forest students have returned to school. Let’s get kids to school safely!
Walking to School
There are lots of children that walk to W.T. Chipman and South Elementary schools. Drivers in town should be aware of kids crossing streets and the possibility of kids darting into the street unexpectedly. Peak hours for pedestrian and vehicular traffic around our schools are 7:30-8:30 am and 3:00-4:00 pm.
It is important for homeowners to keep sidewalks clear so that children have a safe place to walk to school. Please keep bushes and trees from growing over the sidewalk, remove snow and ice from sidewalks in the winter, and do not park cars on sidewalks.
School buses are also picking up and delivery students to schools throughout the district. While driving, keep an eye out for kids waiting at bus stops and buses with flashing lights. Never pass a school bus that has its red lights flashing. The following graphic helps explain when it is necessary to stop for a school bus with flashing lights.
Kids’ Safety Tips
Parents, please remind your children of how to remain safe while walking to school, waiting for the school bus, and traveling to school. Visit the Safe Kids Worldwide website for an infographic that can help you discuss safety with your children.
Have a great school year!
