Disposal of Batteries

Please do not place batteries in the single stream recycling can provided as part of your trash service. Household batteries can be discarded in the following ways:

Single-Use Batteries:  Recycled by taking them to a Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) recycling location or since manufacturers have eliminated mercury from alkaline batteries, they can now be safely thrown in the normal household trash.

Rechargeable Batteries:  Due to hazardous materials, rechargeable batteries should be take to a DSWA Recycling Drop-Off Center. Do not place rechargeable batteries in the trash.

Car Batteries:  Return to the store for recycling.

More information on Recycling Drop-Off Centers can be found on the DSWA website.
